Uraian Tugas
Responsibilities
Risk assessment and mitigation : Analyse worksites, equipment, and procedures to identify potential hazards. Implement control measures, such as engineering controls, administrative controls, and proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Policy development : Create and update safety policies and procedures specific to heavy equipment operation, including machine guarding, lockout / tagout (LOTO), and fire prevention plans.
Compliance management : Stay up to date on all local, state, and federal safety regulations, such as those from OSHA or MSHA, and ensure the company is fully compliant.
Incident investigation : Lead or assist in investigating accidents, near-misses, and safety concerns. Determine root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Training and education : Design and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, operators, and subcontractors on the safe operation of heavy equipment and emergency procedures.
Audits and inspections : Conduct regular safety audits and on-site inspections of facilities, machinery, and work environments. Document findings and track corrective actions to completion.
Collaboration : Work closely with operations, engineering, and management teams to integrate safety measures into all aspects of equipment design and use.
Reporting and analysis : Maintain detailed records of safety metrics, incident reports, and audits. Analyse trends to continuously improve the company's safety performance.
Requirements
Education : A bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Occupational Health and Safety is typically required. Some positions may prefer or require a master's degree.
Experience : Most employers require minimum 5 years of experience in a safety or risk management role, preferably in a high-risk industry like construction, mining, or manufacturing.
Certifications : Professional certifications are often preferred or required for senior roles. These may include Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or certifications specific to mining safety (e.g., MSHA).
Technical knowledge : In-depth knowledge of occupational safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001), risk assessment methodologies (e.g., FMEA, JHA), and hazardous material handling is essential.
Analytical skills : Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills are necessary to identify potential hazards and develop effective mitigation strategies.
Communication skills : Excellent written and verbal communication is crucial for training employees, presenting findings to management, and documenting procedures.
Attention to detail : A meticulous eye for detail is required to spot subtle hazards and ensure compliance.
Soft skills : Leadership, teamwork, and strong interpersonal skills are needed to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and influence a company's safety culture.
