Job Description
Job Overview :
The Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will solve complex Instrumentation & Controls-related problems and work independently with minimal guidance. They may lead functional teams or projects and are regarded as specialists in the field of Instrumentation & Controls, requiring in-depth expertise and broad knowledge within the discipline.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities :
- Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed analyses and design according to project specifications, design codes, and standards.
- Apply in-depth skills and broad knowledge to address complex problems and nonstandard situations.
- Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations, reports, and procedures.
- Manage own time to meet objectives and forecast resource requirements as Lead Engineer.
- Communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively.
- As Lead Engineer, direct medium or large engineering teams, plan and organize all aspects of discipline execution, ensure interface clarity, and maintain responsibility for progress and productivity.
- Participate in project scope understanding, interpret contractual requirements, and manage scope changes and variation orders.
- Coordinate with other disciplines and departments to develop clash-free designs and ensure timely deliverables.
- Review project schedules, attend meetings, and provide technical direction and review of engineering products.
- Assist procurement and review vendor / subcontractor submittals for compliance.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases.
- Guide less experienced engineers, monitor costs, and participate in standards development.
- Develop communication skills through technical papers and presentations.
- Participate in safety and quality audits, and support customer and agency reviews.
- Supervise and guide engineering staff, ensure engineering integrity, and assist in performance evaluations.
- Prepare and review automation system definitions, specifications, and testing procedures.
- Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and classification studies, and support project audits and design reviews.
- Coordinate with vendors and assist in project planning and forecasting.
Reports to : Lead Engineer, Project Engineering Manager, or Project Manager.
Supervises : Senior and standard Instrumentation & Controls Engineers.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education :
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering (Master’s preferred).15-20 years of experience in oil and gas, mainly in detailed design.Preferably a Registered Professional Engineer or member of a professional society.Deep knowledge of design techniques, standards, codes, and guidelines.Strong project coordination and execution skills.#J-18808-Ljbffr
