Overview
Design Lead role at Traveloka. The Design Lead manages all aspects of the design process, from research and ideation to creative conceptualisation and design. The role involves collaborating with stakeholders to research and develop cohesive design plans, create concepts, and oversee the development of prototypes. As a team lead reporting to the Design Manager, the candidate will initiate design and research activities to enhance the core competence of the team and work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure final design output meets the needs of the organisation or customers. The position requires strong collaboration, leadership, and design fundamentals to deliver creative solutions that meet business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design teams in creating product design development and features that meet users\' (latent) needs, including context gathering, framing objectives, analysing findings, reviewing design reports, and communicating proposed design solutions to stakeholders for informed decision-making.
- Assist stakeholders throughout the end-to-end human-centred design process by providing understanding of the process, gaining alignment in each phase, and optimising work processes to meet business goals.
- Organise workshops with agendas that promote creative problem solving.
- Analyse feasibility test results and synthesize insights through regular design project reviews to enhance visual delivery and user experience.
- Disseminate design recommendations, proposals, and options to stakeholders, especially for top priority projects.
Planning and Team Management
Plan and assign a small to medium-sized team of resources to improve delivery of design outputs; align with stakeholders to identify business needs.Oversee the development of a cohesive design project brief, design concepts, and prototypes in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.Approve schedules, timelines, and budgets, and troubleshoot issues during project implementation.Facilitate resource planning and address resourcing issues using appropriate tools.Identify design resource needs based on mission and project requirements and available designers\' skillsets.Design Development Quality
Provide technical expertise and guidance on product design, development, and deployment for the product portfolios via regular design reviews.Justify the features and benefits of recommended design production solutions on behalf of users.Collaborate with stakeholders to translate product plans into design production needs with a project management plan.Oversee the production process to ensure all parameters in the design production plan are met.Anticipate constraints, risks, and potential issues to inform continuous development and iteration of products and features.Safeguard design production quality and communicate implications or trade-offs to relevant stakeholders.Stakeholder Relationships
Review final design production plans and prototypes for features and benefits prior to Design Manager approval, especially for key priority projects.Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external design stakeholders / vendors.Engage business and / or product managers regarding requirements for upcoming plans, concepts, and development.Organisational Development
Provide design performance and performance-review feedback to design teams, especially direct reports.Collaborate with the Design Academy to develop capability and coaching through on-the-job training for designers.Foster a collaborative culture, delegate authority, and defend for the Design team with non-Design stakeholders.Address complaints and concerns impacting team morale and performance; ensure clear, aligned communication within the design team and with other business units or functions.Work with Design Leadership and upper management to align on goals, priorities, and processes across the organisation.Requirements
Minimum qualifications
Overall 7–9 years of total experience in design, with at least 2 years in project management or a leadership role with strong project-management skills; data-informed product design and development experience.Minimum of 4 years as a hands-on Designer (education in Visual Communication Design, UI / Interaction Design, Product Design, or related disciplines).Portfolio demonstrating design craft, Human-Centered Design methodology, willingness to learn and iterate, and a passion for design and storytelling.Experience mentoring high-performing interdisciplinary design teams.Ability to form consensus across a fast-moving organization through effective communication and interpersonal skills (negotiation, feedback, presentation, managing expectations).Keen eye for detail, organized, and capable of problem solving while anticipating risks.Maturity in thinking big-picture with accountability, adaptability, and comfort with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.Fluency in English (verbal and written).Preferred Qualifications
