Overview
Position : Process Safety Engineer
Location : Jakarta, Indonesia
Role Overview :
We are seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to lead and support safety engineering activities through complex oil & gas projects, both offshore and onshore. This role involves developing safety philosophies, conducting hazard analyses, reviewing third-party safety studies, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal HSE outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution
- Minimum 14 years of experience in process safety or technical safety, with at least 1–3 years in a lead role
- Proven involvement in both offshore (FPSO / platforms) and onshore (refineries, LNG, terminals) design projects
- Familiarity with international and local safety codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, EI15, MODU, SOLAS, DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register)
- Hands-on experience in plot plan reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL verification, and other safety assessments (e.g., SIMOPS, ALARP)
- Proficiency in safety modeling tools such as PIPENET Vision, Flaresim, and DNV PHAST
- Strong ability to influence design decisions to enhance HSE performance
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset with leadership potential
Key Responsibilities
Develop safety design philosophies, HSE plans, and specifications for fire protection systems (active / passive), human factors engineering, and moreLead and participate in safety reviews such as HAZOP, HAZID, SIL studies, and ensure timely closure of action itemsReview and, when required, independently conduct safety studies including FERA, QRA, EERA, ESSA, dispersion analysis, and dropped object assessmentsDesign fire protection systems and prepare safety documentation including hazardous area classifications, escape routes, and life-saving equipment layoutsDefine performance standards for safety-critical elements, including RAM and fire / gas detection mappingServe as Package Engineer for safety systems and life-saving equipmentManage and mentor engineers and designers within the safety disciplineProvide health and environmental inputs, including risk assessments related to chemical exposure, noise, lighting, ergonomics, and environmental impactCoordinate with other engineering disciplines and clients to resolve safety-related technical issuesEnsure timely delivery of safety-related project deliverables and progress reportingWith over 90 years' combined experience, NES Fircroft (NES) is proud to be the world's leading engineering staffing provider spanning the Oil & Gas, Power & Renewables, Chemicals, Construction & Infrastructure, Life Sciences, Mining and Manufacturing sectors worldwide.
